Your Business and Its Music: Does It Flow?

The technology-centered business of today is different. It’s more personal, closer to the heart of business operations, integrated and embedded into the entire business lifecycle. Listening to the flow, cadence, and rhythm of business – the relationship between the digital and analog – has never been more important to business success as it is today.

The unseen heard and felt aspects of business can reveal keys to understanding it.

In a technological business world with user interfaces and digital interaction as its canvas, we operate within a frame of bits and bytes, 0’s and 1’s – a logical way of thinking. This can result in a business feeling much like a square wave (watch this video to the end and feel the difference).

What happens when you think of your business as music?

Exercise your business synesthesia

Which song do you want your business to sound like?

Whether listening to relaxing easy listening tunes, funk, jazz, blues, bossa nova, EDM, R&B, or glitch-hop, we all know music inspires feeling.

Well-tempered business flow may bring to mind something like the music of J.S. Bach. One can feel a certain precision, distinct time, rhythm, and cadence. Within it, one can feel the logic, flow, and control.

In contrast, a song like Pat Metheny’s “Song X” lands and resonates differently. Like disconnected and disjointed business practices, this composition can feel out of sync and chaotic.

What do you feel when you listen to the sound of your organization?
